TITLE: TOMORROW IS NEVER PROMISED (Series 1)
YEAR: 2020
This next piece, titled "Tomorrow is Never Promised" (Series 1), is a captivating fusion of pen and watercolor, created in 2020.It features the renowned African-American gospel rapper, Lecrae, who appears lost in deep contemplation. The intricate pen work captures every nuance of his expression, while the watercolor adds a layer of emotion, blending the colors into a somber yet striking portrayal. The artwork seems to convey the weight of unspoken thoughts and the uncertainty that life often brings, reminding us all that tomorrow is never guaranteed. This is the first in a series of three, each exploring the theme of life’s fragility and the profound reflections that arise from it.
TITLE: TOMORROW IS NEVER PROMISED (Series 2)
YEAR: 2020
This piece is a deeply personal drawing of my cousin, Daberechi, rendered in pen with careful attention to detail. His expression captures a sense of introspection as if he's contemplating the uncertainties of life. This piece was crafted using the fusion of pens and watercolor. My favorite parts about this piece are the shadow of his fingers sitting on the left side of his face and his countenance; his facial expression is fire; so demure. The artwork serves as a keen reminder that tomorrow—the future—is not ours to see. What truly matters is the present moment. Life is too short to dwell on what lies ahead or to cling to the past.
TITLE: TOMORROW IS NEVER PROMISED (Series 3)
YEAR: 2021
"Tomorrow is Never Promised" (Series 3) depicts a gorgeous young lady, named Valerie, a coursemate of mine, with a peaceful countenance that captures a moment of deep reflection. Her eyes are gently closed as if she's buried in her thoughts, contemplating the uncertainties of life. This piece's principal media is a watercolor wash, enveloping her in gentle, flowing hues that evoke vulnerability and peace. The delicate color blending produces an ethereal ambiance that represents the fragility of our existence. To highlight the smaller features, I used a pen to create contrast and definition, tirelessly drawing her face's contours and the slight strain in her closed eyes. The use of watercolor and pen highlights the emotions that are just beneath the surface, highlighting the peaceful strength that emanates from within her. This final installment in the series captures the sad reality that tomorrow is never guaranteed, prompting viewers to reflect on the transitory moments that comprise our existence.
